Compact sedans typically win over their buyers not with appearance, but performance: efficiency, spacious luggage space, and comfortable interior. Hyundai Elantra 2016 is a pleasant exception.

The new car will have an attractive exterior, and will be outfitted with a complete kit of modern electronic equipment . The manufacturer is particularly dedicated to improving the steering and suspension. This new line of vehicles will be available in three variants – sedan, sport version and coupe.

New generation exterior

South Korean engineers created a new platform for their sixth generation sedan. The body was made stronger, tougher and lighter, allowing the car to be outfitted with additional equipment. Highly functional equipment is a notable feature of Hyundai Elantra 2016.
Photo shows significant changes in the car’s appearance. The characteristic rounded roofline will remain unchanged, but the transition to the rear volume of the luggage compartment is made smoother. Headlights will now have LED segments.

Day foglights have disappeared from the front bumper side projections; they are now integrated into the raised wheel arches and have a vertical solution.

Hexagonal grille is an expression of the overall design concept. Its geometry is somewhat reminiscent of the similar components in Elantra’s predecessors Sonata and Genesis. A dynamic raised line leads along the door towards the rear light unit. A triangular фальшфорточка(false window?) has appeared on the rear doors. Externally, the Elantra looks a lot like a four-door coupe, similar to the vehicles produced by German manufacturers – the influence of a European design bureau is clear. A worthy interior

The outline of the salon has changed. Its components now have a rounded shape. The instrument panel acquired an unusual original lighting in white and blue. Speedometer and tachometer are deeply embedded into the dashboard, and between them is an informative digital display. Pedals are made of stainless steel, just like in very expensive and prestigious models. Inside, Hyundai Elantra 2016 is outfitted with ventilated front seats. Sound insulation is significantly improved.

Basic kit is equipped with a separate climate control, lights and wipers operating in automatic mode, and also includes an advanced multimedia system with a 6-inch display. If you have a smart phone, it will allow for synchronization with social networks. The top version offers many features that were previously exclusive to older models: air ionizer, heated glass.

Technical specifications

Hyundai Elantra 2016 mostly kept the size of its predecessors, but gained about 50 kg of weight:

Engines and chassis

Customers will be able to choose between three variants of propulsion systems:

petrol engine of 1.6 liters, 133 hp
petrol engine of 1.8 liters, 150 hp
petrol engine of 2 liters, 173 hp

With the 1.8 liter engine car accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds, fuel consumption in combined cycle – 7.5 liters, the maximum speed – 200 km/h. The base kit includes a six-speed manual transmission. As an option, Shiftronic automatic transmission is available. The near future holds installation of turbocharged versions of serial units, as well as turbo-diesel CRDi.

Hybrid version of the Elantra and an electric vehicle, chargeable from a household electric grid, are already being tested. The hybrid propulsion system is similar to the one already tested on Kia Soul. On a single charge the electric motor will allow driving a distance of up to 120 km. The front suspension will keep MacPherson struts, and the rear will remain semi-independent.

Packaging and sale price

Official showcase of the Hyundai Elantra 2016 luxury version will take place in the coming months. Serial production and delivery to dealerships is planned for the end of the year. Buyers will be offered four variants of the sedan configuration: Base, Base Automatic, Active and Comfort. The most basic version of the car will cost just over $17 000.
