In November 2015, at the international auto show in Los Angeles, Fiat brought a new double roadster called 124 Spider – a successful “fruit” of cooperation between Italians and the Japanese automaker Mazda. Technically, the car can be considered not a much-overhauled version of the MX-5 of the fourth generation, but the designers did their best to give it the features of the original “124th” cabriolet that was produced in the 60-80s of the last century in cooperation with Pininfarina.
EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR DESIGN
Talking about exterior design, the Italians turned out to be a really beautiful, fashionable and stylish car, which will definitely become the main “bait” of Fiat showrooms. Rounded front lighting, ringed with LED daytime running lights, a relief hood, oblong tail lights and a “old school-like” label give 124 Spider a light retro coating. But a pair of “trunks” of the release system is added to the roadster of sporting excitement.
Overall length of Fiat 124 2018 model year is 4054 mm, of which 2310 mm is reserved for the wheelbase, the width is 1740 mm, the height is 1233 mm. On the road, the “Italian” is supported by 16-inch wheels, fitted in 195/50 / R16-size tires, which optionally give way to “rollers” for 17 inches (205/45 / R17). “Combat” mass of the car, depending on the version, varies from 1050 to 1130 kg.
Fiat 124 Spider practically without changes is borrowed from the “donor” model. A stylish multifunction steering wheel with control elements, an informative “shield” of devices and a minimalist design of the center console with a 7-inch screen of a multimedia complex and three rotating washers of the climate system – inside the roadster is subject to the following concept: laconically beautiful design and maxi-clever ergonomics. On the “124-m” are installed in a sporty molded front seats with a pronounced profile and rigid filler.
Simultaneously with two passengers the car is able to take on board up to 140 liters of useful luggage in the luggage compartment. The fabric folding top with a rigid front section “does not eat up” the volume of the “hold” in the folded state, since it is deprived of an electric drive. Since we are talking about the roadster, it should be noted that the Fiat 124 Spyder is equipped with a soft folding top.
In the movement of Fiat 124 Spider leads 1.4-liter turbocharged “four” family MultiAir, issuing in the American version of 162 liters. from. power and 249 Nm of torque (in Europe and Asia power and torque are reduced to 140 and 240, respectively). It works in tandem with a 6-speed manual transmission, or with a 6-band “automatic” Aisin. Under the hood of the Fiat 124 Spider, there is a non-alternative gasoline engine – the four-row MultiAir turbocharged and distributed power system that generates 140 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 2250 rpm (in the specification for the US market, 160 ” horses “and 250 Nm).
Thrust is fully transmitted to the wheels of the rear axle by means of a 6-speed “mechanics”, although in the US for the car there is also an “automatic” about six ranges.
COMPONENTS AND PRICES
In the US, the Fiat 124 Spider will be launched in the summer of 2018, a little later, its supplies will be organized in the European dealer centers of the brand. For the car will offer two levels of equipment – Classica and Lusso, but only prices have not yet been announced.
As for the equipment, the basic version of the roadster “flaunts” the electric booster of the steering wheel, ABS, ESP, 16-inch aluminum wheels, the standard audio system, the “Start / Stop” technology, air conditioning, multifunction steering wheel and other functions. Features of the “top” version are the presence of a multimedia system, a two-zone “climate”, leather seats and a rear-view camera.

The world premiere of the model took place at the Auto Show in Los Angeles in November 2015. 124 Spider is the fruit of the joint work of the engineers Fiat and Mazda, and therefore it easily captures the elements and solutions embodied in the Japanese MX-5 roadster. But this does not mean that cars are identical. No, the Italians made every effort to give 124 Spider not only a national flavor, but also to remind of a distant ancestor – Fiat 124, which was produced in the 60s of the last century. And, I must admit, the modern roadster turned out very, very elegant and dynamic.
