After 9 years of sales on the market, Chevrolet Traverse has finally got its’ update. It is interesting that the company itself positions it as a mid-size SUV, although it exceeds the size of even the giant Tahoe. Compared with the previous generation, this SUV became lighter, got a spectacular appearance and a bunch of modern technological solutions.

INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DESIGN

The car is very different from the previous generation and in terms of design this is a big step forward. It is an SUV which inspires a feeling of calm strength and unobtrusive certainty. It is all thanks to the faceted lines of the side body panels, huge radiator grille, sharpened bumpers and of course the muscular “rectangular” arches. The black rear rack completes the design of the stern with “open space” and visually contributes to the lengthening of the car.

In the cabin of the Chevrolet Traverse the multimedia screen occupies a central place. There are a climate control unit with two “twirls” below and a block of buttons. Also, there is a classic form of the “automatic” lever on the tunnel. Because of the large wheelbase there is a lot of space for the passengers of the second and third row. The Chevrolet Traverse can accommodate up to eight people – it all depends on the layout of the middle row: a triple sofa or two individual “captain’s” chairs.

In the front of the cabin there are comfortable seats with large adjustment ranges, but poorly developed sidewalls and the back of the cabin is able to easily receive three adult passengers. For each passenger there is its own USB-out for recharging the phone. Even with the eight-way layout there remains an impressive baggage compartment with a capacity of 651 liters (according to the American EPA technique). The maximum capacity is 2789 liters, while the combined second and third rows of seats form a practically flat cargo area.

ENGINE

The second-generation Traverse is equipped with two motors – an atmospheric V6 of 3.6 liters, giving 310 hp. and 360 Nm of torque, and a four-cylinder in-line turbo engine of 2 liters, producing 255 hp. and 400 Nm of torque. Both engines work in conjunction with the 9-step hydromechanical automatic transmission Hydra-Matic 9T50 and front-drive transmission, supplemented by the Traction Mode Select system, which changes the algorithm of the anti-slip electronics. By default, it is set to the front-wheel drive, but it is possible to get a rear axle connected via a multi-disc clutch for a surcharge.

Chevrolet Traverse is built on a global vehicle platform C1XX and in the design of its body is widely involved in high-strength grades of steel. The car is equipped with an independent running gear: the front axle is equipped with McPherson struts and the rear one with a five-link system. By default, the crossover is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering system with an electric booster which has progressive characteristics. On all wheels of the American “giant” disc brakes with ABS, BA, EBD and other modern systems were used.

FUEL ECONOMY

The SUV is rated to do an impressive 15 miles per gallon in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

RELEASE DATE AND PRICE

In the US market the updated Traverse appeared in the fall of 2017. The price starting from $30,000.

CONCLUSION

Without doubt, Chevrolet Traverse combines two qualities – good fuel economy and a huge cabin for a large family. Considering the strong technical characteristics and price you can safely say that the car is one of the best choices of family SUV in 2017.
