Talk about the release of Audi’s new flagship sedan has been going on for the past few years, but it seems now they are beginning to materialize. So, more recently, the leadership of the German carmaker from Ingolstadt confirmed the development of the new Audi A9 2017-2018, the debut of which should take place in the near future.
INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DESIGN
The car is impressive in size (the length of the car has saddled for 5 meters) has a wide hood, the re-designed design of which involves docking with the front wings, rather than overlapping them; concave lines on the sides give the coupe athleticity, and the complete absence of door handles – ultramodern. The form of the radiator grille is familiar in modern Audi models, although it is slightly stretched. On the fact that this sports car points out large air intakes, low landing of the car, the most streamlined form of the body, a sporty form of a splitter behind. “Obut” Audi Prologue in massive wheels with 22-inch wheel disks. The body color can be of three colors: gray, black, white.
The interior of the car is no less modern. The front panel is made in a sports version. A large number of buttons and knobs have been replaced by touch controls and a multimedia display in the middle of the front panel. The instrument panel is an OLED display with an electronic view of the instruments. To the variety of displays, another screen is added to the lever of the gearbox for controlling the audio system, climate control, etc. The multifunctional steering wheel, whose appearance is familiar in the recently updated Audi models, allows receiving calls, adjusting the suspension and controlling other functions. The salon is four-seater, with a split rear seats in the style of a sports car, decorated with genuine leather.
As stated earlier, the novelty can get not only a gasoline, but also a fully electric engine. It is expected that the gasoline engine will move here from the current flagship Audi A8 and will be presented with a 4-liter V8, issuing 605 hp. and an impressive 750 Nm of torque, transmitted to all 4 wheels, through the latest Quattro system. With this engine almost two-ton vehicle can develop the first hundred in just 3.7 seconds, and also reach a maximum of 250 km / h (limited by electronics).
In the case of the electric Audi A9, which should receive an e-Tron attachment, the car will be driven by three electric motors with a total output of 430 hp. and 800 Nm of rotational traction, which the machine will inherit from the first fully electric Audi – model A6 e-Tron, the production of which should begin in the near future.
The source of power for the electric motors will be a 95-kilowatt built-in chassis battery, the capacity of which should provide a range of up to 500 km. And here the variant with the petrol engine 4.0 TFSI 8AT, capacity in 605 hp, will give the fuel consumption at a level of 8.6 l / 100 km.
RELEASE DATE AND PRICE
The exact date of release was not reported, but, most likely, it will appear on the market in 2020. According to Audi, by 2020 there will be 3 electric cars, the first of which will be Quattro e-tron, and by 2025 25% of the line will be models with battery power.
The new Audi A9 is able to radically change the alignment of forces in the segment of premium cars, making a proper competition for the electric car Tesla Model S and standing in line with such brands as Aston Martin, Porsche and Bentley.
